Deer, or doe (lat. Dama) — a genus of herbivorous ruminant mammals in the subfamily Cervinae, belonging to the family Bovidae.

Deer are slender animals with long legs and a short snout adapted for grabbing branches of trees and shrubs. Height at the withers can reach 2 meters, and body mass up to 200 kilograms.

Deer are distributed in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. In Russia there are six species of deer: from the genus from the genus from the genus from the genus.

Deer feed on a variety of vegetation: leaves, shoots, bark and young shoots of trees and shrubs, grasses, moss, mushrooms and lichens.

Deer reproduce throughout the year, but most often in spring and summer. Pregnancy lasts from 8 to 9 months. In a litter there is usually one or two fawns, less often three or four.

Deer live solitary or in small groups consisting of a male, a female and their offspring. In a herd there can also be adult animals without offspring.

In the wild, deer live from 15 to 25 years, in captivity — up to 30 years.

Deer are hunted, and also a source of meat, hide, antlers and horns.
