The European eel (Latin: Anguilla anguilla) is a species of ray-finned fish in the family Anguillidae, one of two (along with the common eel) currently existing species in the genus Anguilla.
The European eel is a large freshwater and marine fish. It reaches a length of 5–6 m and a mass of 200 kg, usually 2.5–3 m and 50–80 kg.
