Varenets is a fermented dairy beverage produced from caramelized milk. The caramelized milk is simmered in special Russian ovens for several hours. It is then cooled and fermented. A streptococcus culture is used as the starter.
Varenets has a characteristic beige color and a delicate creamy taste. Its fat content is 2.5%.
